There’s always something happening at The Shepherd’s Inn.
Since opening the doors, we’ve wanted the pub to be more than somewhere to stop for a drink or a meal. We want it to feel welcoming, lively and connected to the people around it – a place where you can meet friends, discover something new or simply enjoy a good evening out.
That idea sits behind our monthly What’s On guide.
Each edition brings together the food nights, live music, quizzes, open mic evenings, games and seasonal gatherings planned for the weeks ahead. Some events change from month to month, while familiar favourites such as our chippy van and big breakfasts regularly return.
The result is a simple guide to what’s happening, when it’s happening and what you might like to join us for.
We release a new What’s On guide before the beginning of each month, giving everyone time to see what’s coming up and make plans.
No two editions are quite the same. One month might include several live bands and a special celebration; another might introduce a new food night, a games evening or an event we’ve never tried before.
Alongside those new additions are the regular nights people have come to know and enjoy. Having both allows the calendar to remain familiar without becoming predictable.
Everything is collected in one place, so you can quickly find the dates, times and highlights that interest you.
Some events have become part of the regular rhythm of life at the pub.
Our big breakfasts offer a hearty start to the day, while the chippy van visits provide a relaxed excuse to leave the cooking behind. Quiz nights add a little friendly competition, and games evenings create an easy-going atmosphere where anyone can join in.
Open mic nights are often less predictable. Experienced performers may share the evening with someone appearing in public for the first time, and that mixture is part of their charm.
We’re also happy to experiment. Some ideas become instant favourites, while others evolve as we learn what people enjoy. The programme is not intended to be fixed; it should reflect the pub and the people who use it.
Live music has become one of the highlights of our monthly calendar.
Cumbria is home to a wide range of talented performers, and we enjoy giving them a place to play. Some nights are energetic and lively, while others are more intimate, but each artist brings a different atmosphere to the room.
There’s something special about hearing music performed in a village pub. People may arrive intending to stay for one drink, then settle in as the evening unfolds around them.
The guide will tell you who is appearing, when they are playing and what sort of night you can expect.
Behind the calendar is a wider belief in the role a village pub can play.
For generations, pubs have been places where news is shared, friendships develop and people from different parts of a community cross paths. In a world where so much of daily life now happens online, that face-to-face connection feels increasingly valuable.
We want The Shepherd’s Inn to retain that traditional spirit while still feeling relevant today. A band, quiz or food night may provide the reason to visit, but the conversations and shared experiences are what give the evening its character.
You don’t need to know everyone in the room, join every activity or stay until closing time. The important thing is that the door is open and there is a place to go.
The monthly programme will continue to develop as we discover what works and hear what people would like to see next.
Some of our best ideas begin as conversations across the bar. A suggestion might lead to a new performer, a different kind of games night or a seasonal event that becomes part of the calendar for years to come.
We’ll keep supporting local talent, developing our food events and trying ideas that suit the character of the pub. Not everything has to be elaborate. Sometimes the simplest evenings are the ones people remember most fondly.
Suggestions are always welcome, so let us know when there is something you would enjoy seeing at The Shepherd’s Inn.
The latest What’s On guide will always be available through our website and social media.
You can also subscribe to receive it directly before the start of each month, along with occasional news and updates from the pub. It’s the easiest way to keep track of upcoming dates without having to search for the latest information.
We won’t fill your inbox unnecessarily. The aim is simply to help you hear about the events that may interest you before they happen.
Take a look through the latest guide and choose something that catches your eye.
You might discover a new local musician, join a quiz team, enjoy one of our food nights or simply find a good excuse to meet friends at the pub.
We look forward to seeing you during the month ahead.
